An zwei Dingen kommt man in Burgos nicht vorbei. Das eine sind Pilger und das andere die Kathedrale. An manchen Tagen auch noch der Nationalheld El Cid. Das liegt daran, dass die Großstadt am Jakobsweg (Camino Francés) und am Camin del Cid liegt. Es ist also immer viel los in diesem Ort, besonders, wenn man gerade am Feiertag zu Ehren von el Cid in der Gegend ist.
Menschen feiern auf den Straßen und Plätzen mit allerlei Musik, Masken und mittelalterlicher Kirmes. Eine Theatergruppe erschrickt die Menschen mit Fantasiekostümen aus dem kleinen Horrorrepertoire.
UNESCO Welterbe und alltägliches Leben liegen hier sehr nah beieinander. Der Weg von den Wohngebieten zur Kathedrale ist kurz und leicht zu laufen. Durch ältere Stadtviertel mit historischer Bebauung, entlang der Parkanlage des Río Arlanzón in die moderne Innenstadt ist ein schöner Weg, um die Umgebung kennen zu lernen. Die Kathedrale dominiert den Blick auf dem Weg.
There are two things you simply can’t miss in Burgos. One is the pilgrims, and the other is the cathedral. On some days, you’ll also encounter the national hero, El Cid. That’s because the city lies along the Way of St. James (Camino Francés) and the Camin del Cid. So there’s always a lot going on here, especially if you happen to be in the area during the holiday honoring El Cid.
People celebrate in the streets and squares with all kinds of music, masks, and a medieval fair. A theater troupe startles the crowd with fantasy costumes from a small horror repertoire.
UNESCO World Heritage sites and everyday life are very close together here. The walk from the residential areas to the cathedral is short and easy. A stroll through the older neighborhoods with historic architecture, along the Río Arlanzón park to the modern city center, is a lovely way to get to know the area. The cathedral dominates the view along the way.
