From Calais to Dover, Dover … 1992, twenty years later on the trail of the hit song by Gaby Baginsky (1972). Southern England, along the English Channel coast to the end.

Well, following in the footsteps is certainly a bit of an exaggeration, but the song is still stuck in my head, as pop songs go. So we set off, with ship and car in the belly, tent in the boot, there were no tunnels back then. Driving on the left was no problem, the traffic routing took care of that. We travelled via Brighton, Salesbury, Bath, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Dorset, Lyme Regis, through Dartmoor to Penzance. Adventurous back then, the area, the legends, the food, the people.

Mystical things everywhere, mountains of old stones. Sometimes very old, sometimes not so much. Artificial hills, giants and animal figures made of white limestone, wishing wells, scones and no coffee, plastic, plastic everywhere and even more “Pay here” signs. Nothing was free, no church, no park…
