Was als Grabmal für eine Geliebte angelegt wurde, ist heute ein Sehnsuchtsort für Menschen aus aller Welt. Der Großmogul Shah Jahan ließ den Bau zum Gedenken für seine im Jahre 1631 verstorbene Frau Mumtaz Mahal (Arjumand Bano Begum, später auch Mumtaz-uz-Zamani) erbauen. Er selbst wurde ebenfalls dort begraben, nachdem sein Sohn ihn abgesetzt und im Roten Fort einige Kilomater entfernt festgesetzt hatte.
Seit dem spinnt sich viel romantische durch die Geschichte um die beiden. Was davon wahr ist ???

What was built as a tomb for a lover is now a place of longing for people from all over the world. The Grand Mughal Shah Jahan had the building erected in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal (Arjumand Bano Begum, later also Mumtaz-uz-Zamani), who died in 1631. He himself was also buried there after his son deposed him and imprisoned him in the Red Fort a few kilometres away.
Since then, there has been a lot of romance surrounding the two of them. Which of them is true ???
