Zwölf verschiedene Quellen in Stadtgebiet, davon einige direkt nebeneinander. Das hat nicht jede Badestadt und wird dann auch noch UNESCO Kulturerbe.
Schon die Römer haben sich hier aufgewärmt und danach viele illustre Gäste. Das hat an der Substanz genagt und die Altstadt mit Kurgebiet sieht ziemlich runtergekommen aus. Gefühlt die Hälfte der Stadt ist Baustelle, die andere Hälfte muss noch. Jemand hat viel Geld in die Hand genommen, um den alten Glanz wieder zum Leuchten zu bringen. Wer kann überhaupt so viele Baugerüste liefern?
Zwischendurch wirkt die Stadt wie ausgestorben, kann an der Hitze gelegen haben oder an den wenigen Gästen, denn die großen Kurhotels bauen gerade um. Auch ein wenig Olympia machte sich bemerkbar, die aufgestaute Flussstrecke ist Trainingsort für diverse Wassersportarten.
Ob die vielen Minigolfplätze am Ufer auch Welterbe sind, konnte ich nicht herausfinden, werden aber von der Tourismusinfo fast so gehandelt.
Das Quellwasser schmeckt furchtbar, die Pastillen besser. Apropo, aufpassen, in den Geschäften gibt es überall gleich aussehende Packungen, die aber unterschiedliche Mengen enthalten. Ein Preisvergleich ist dadurch auf den ersten Blick kaum möglich.
Ein Besuch in zwei/drei Jahren lohnt sich bestimmt. Dann sind die meisten Baustellen weg und es macht bestimmt Spaß dort zu Kurwandeln.
Vichy war Sitz des Vichy-Regimes im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Die Entscheidung fiel auf den Ort, weil es dort eine moderne Telefonanlage gab.
Twelve different springs in the city centre, some of them right next to each other. Not every spa town has this and it is also a UNESCO cultural heritage site.
Even the Romans used to warm up here, followed by many illustrious guests. This has taken its toll on the substance and the old town and spa area look pretty run-down. It feels like half of the town is a building site, the other half still needs to be renovated. Someone has spent a lot of money to restore the old splendour. Who can supply so much scaffolding anyway?
At times, the town seems deserted, which may have been due to the heat or the lack of guests, as the large spa hotels are currently being remodelled. There was also a hint of the Olympics: the dammed-up stretch of river is a training centre for various water sports.
I couldn’t find out whether the many mini-golf courses on the banks are also a World Heritage Site, but the tourist information centre almost treats them as such.
The spring water tastes terrible, the pastilles better. Apropo, watch out, in the shops there are packages that look the same everywhere, but contain different quantities. a price comparison is therefore hardly possible on the first view.
A visit in two or three years is definitely worthwhile. Most of the building sites will be gone by then and it will certainly be fun to go spa walking there.
