Wadi Rum
ist die größte Sandwüste und der größte Wadi in Jordanien. Das sagt noch nicht viel, bis man die Felsformationen aus Sandstein und Granit gesehen hat. Täler und Schluchten aus Sand und Gestein, dazwischen Büsche, die in der Sonne leuchten. Wir waren kurz nach einem Regen dort, Boden und Luft waren feucht, die Farben des Sandsteins strahlten in allen möglichen Braun- Schwarz- Gelb-Rottönen.
Hier befindet sich auch eine Teilstrecke der berühmten Hedschasbahn, die Lawrenz von Arabien für seine Zwecke nutzte. Der ist in der Gegend nicht sehr beliebt, er gilt als Verräter und der Hollywood Film wird erst gar nicht gezeigt.
is the largest sand desert and the largest wadi in Jordan. That doesn’t say much until you see the rock formations of sandstone and granite. Valleys and gorges of sand and rock, interspersed with bushes that glow in the sun. We were there shortly after a rainstorm, the ground and air were damp, the colors of the sandstone shone in all possible shades of brown, black, yellow and red.
There is also a section of the famous Hejaz Railway here, which Lawrence of Arabia used for his purposes. He is not very popular in the area, he is considered a traitor and the Hollywood movie is not even shown.
