New York: The Rock – Central Park – Polen
Es gibt so Gegenden, in denen sich Klischees gut und gerne erfüllen. Und dazu gehört das Areal rund um den Central Park am Sonntag. Eine Parade zur Ehren des polnischen Nationalhelden, Hundegottes-dienst im Park, Kitsch und Kunst, Hunde ausführen und Fastfood.
Eine Umgebung zum Wohlfühlen. Wären da nicht die 70 Stockwerke des Comcast Building (Rockefeller Center). Da hoch ist schon eine Entscheidung. Nicht wegen der 37$ Eintritt, die 259 m sind doch ne ganz schöne Höhe. Besonders weil die letzten zwei Stockwerke nur zu Fuß zu erreichen sind. 20 Sekunden im Aufzug lohnen sich allemal. Eine grandiose Aussicht auf eine ebenso grandiose Stadt, das sollte niemand verpassen.
Und dazwischen eine Parade zu Ehren von Tadeusz Kościuszko. Der Polnische Nationalheld kämpfte im amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg an der Seite George Washingtons. Er vertrat die Ideale der Aufklärung und unterstützte die Abschaffung der Sklaverei.
Der Central Park gibt dann die Möglichkeit, sich wieder zu entspannen. Naja, wenn da nicht tausende anderer Menschen wären. Am Wochenende halbiert sich zwar die Zahl der Anwesenden in New York, diese treffen sich dafür alle auf dem kleinen Stückchen Grün im Norden. Künstler und Gaukler, Musiker und Hundeausführer, Kletterer und Jogger. Am Besten einfach eine freie Bank suchen und zuschauen.
There are areas where clichés are easily and happily fulfilled. And the area around Central Park on Sunday is one of them. A parade in honor of the Polish national hero, dog worship in the park, kitsch and art, dog walking and fast food.
A feel-good environment. If it weren’t for the 70 stories of the Comcast Building (Rockefeller Center). Going up there is a decision. Not because of the 37$ entrance fee, the 259 meters are quite a height. Especially because the last two floors can only be reached on foot. 20 seconds in the elevator is definitely worth it. A magnificent view of an equally magnificent city, no one should miss it.
And in between, a parade in honor of Tadeusz Kościuszko. The Polish national hero fought alongside George Washington in the American War of Independence. He represented the ideals of the Enlightenment and supported the abolition of slavery.
Central Park then gives you the chance to relax again. Well, if there weren’t thousands of other people. Although the number of people in New York is halved at the weekend, they all meet up on this little piece of green in the north. Artists and jugglers, musicians and dog walkers, climbers and joggers. The best thing to do is to find a free bench and watch.
