Istanbul: Bosporus

The strait between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea is a major route for international shipping. Every day, around 160 large freighters and tankers, as well as warships, are only allowed to cross the strait with pilots and at a great distance. At the top, low-salt water flows from the Black Sea into the Mediterranean. A good 40 m below, it goes in the other direction. The two sides of Istanbul are connected by two bridges and a tunnel.
