Heute ein kleines Dorf, hat Halebid doch eine große Vergangenheit. Unter dem Namen Dorasamudra war es vom 12. bis ins 14. Jahrhundert Hauptstadt des Hoysala-Reiches.

An diese Zeit erinnern in Halebid der Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts erbaute Hoysaleshwara-Tempel sowie der kleinere Kedareshwara-Tempel. Die Tempel von Halebid gehören zu den bedeutendsten Beispielen der Hoysala-Architektur. Auch hier wurde Speckstein zu Säulen gedrechselt und die filigran geschnitzten Geschichten rund um die kleeblattförmigen Tempelmauern sind aus dem selben Material.

Today a small village, Halebid has a great past. Under the name Dorasamudra, it was the capital of the Hoysala Empire from the 12th to the 14th century.

The Hoysaleshwara temple, built at the end of the 12th century, and the smaller Kedareshwara temple in Halebid are reminders of this period. The temples of Halebid are among the most important examples of Hoysala architecture. Here too, soapstone was turned into pillars and the intricately carved stories around the cloverleaf-shaped temple walls are made of the same material.
