Der Brihadishvara-Tempel ist eine absolute Schönheit in der ehemaligen Hauptstadt des Chola-Reichs Thanjavur im Mündungsdelta des heiligen Kaveri-Flusses. All das um mit den idealen Maßen von 241 mal 121 m, der Vimana, einer Stufenpyramide, die als Höhepunkt dieser Baukunst gilt, König Rajaraja I. Vision von seiner Kraft, seiner Machtstellung und von der absoluten Ordnung darzustellen. Der gesamte Bau besteht fast nur aus unzementierten Granitblöcken, bis in 22 meter Höhe, wahrscheinlich mit einer Rampe aufgebaut. Er gehört zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO.

The Brihadishvara Temple is an absolute beauty in the former capital of the Chola Empire, Thanjavur, in the delta of the holy Kaveri River. All this to depict King Rajaraja I’s vision of his power, authority and absolute order with the ideal dimensions of 241 by 121 meters, the Vimana, a stepped pyramid, which is considered the pinnacle of this architectural art. The entire structure consists almost entirely of uncemented granite blocks, up to a height of 22 meters, probably built with a ramp. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
