After the construction of the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao’s boom really took off. The industrial and harbour city in the Basque Country was previously pretty run-down. I know it from a trip along the Atlantic coast about 30 years ago. Back then it was a no-go, today it has art and culture on every corner, a great old town, pubs, cafés, restaurants with lots of life on the street. Day and night. In between, a few pintxos and a glass of wine and on we go’s through the shopping mile, along the river. Swim with the flow of visitors and locals. Finding a little peace and quiet in the cloister of the monastery next to Bilbao Cathedral.
